Albanian people-smuggling gang ‘dismantled’ by UK and Spanish police

Gang branded an ‘important criminal organisation’ by Spanish police, who co-operated with the UK’s National Crime Agency in the operation. An Albanian organised crime ring involved in smuggling migrants to the UK via Spain has been dismantled. The network facilitated journeys of mainly Albanian migrants, smuggling them through the northern Spanish cities of Bilbao and Santander into the UK using ferries and freight shipping routes to Portsmouth, Southampton and Liverpool. The migrants were believed to have come directly from Albania to Spain for onward travel, but were also recruited from camps located around Spanish ports facilities. The French Armament General Directorate (DGA) has signed a contract, on behalf of the Ministry of Interior, for the procurement and maintenance of 10 Airbus H160 helicopters in a law enforcement configuration for the Gendarmerie Nationale. France is the first country to order the H160 for law enforcement missions. The H160s for the Gendarmerie Nationale will be equipped with a Safran Euroflir 410 electro-optical system, winching, and fast roping capabilities. The air force command centre of the Gendarmerie Nationale and Airbus Helicopters are also working closely together to develop a tailored mission management system. Six police officers shot dead in northern Mexico

Six police officers were shot dead this Wednesday in the northern Mexican state of Zacatecas, where rival cartels are fighting to control drug trafficking, Mexican authorities have revealed. At first, five police officers were shot while training at a sports center in Calera de Victor Rosales, explained a source from the government of the state of Zacatecas. Two other police officers who went to the scene were shot and one died, the same source said in a statement. The governor of Zacatecas, David Monreal, called this incident a "cowardly attack".
