Space Armageddon: Why the Pentagon fears Russia and China’s star wars weaponry

Russia and China are both in a race to catch the US with their space warfare capabilities. Early last month senior Pentagon officials huddled for two days of top secret discussions about Russia and China’s space weapons. Experts from the U.S. Space Command, the Missile Defense Agency, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the CIA, among others, delivered classified briefings on the grave threat posed by these incredibly destructive high-tech devices. A highly-classified tabletop wargame followed.  The danger of space warfare is increasing, as the two-theater war scenario that the U.S. has long feared is no longer hypothetical. Moscow and Beijing are strengthening their anti-U.S. partnership at a time when Russia is engaged in a brutal war on Ukraine and China is turni...

Further changes in Russia’s military: Rustam Muradov, who made his name in Syria and Chechnya, appointed commander of Eastern military district

General Rustam Muradov was appointed commander of Russia’s Eastern military district. The district consists of four military units — the Far-Eastern military district, the Pacific fleet, the eastern part of the Siberian military district, and the air-force and air defense command. The district headquarters are located in Khabarovsk. Muradov’s appointment was reported by RBC and RTVI, based on data from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities and SPARK (an analytic system set up by the Interfax). This information was also confirmed by the head of Dagestan Sergey Melikov, who wrote on his Telegram channel: “I think this is a sound decision. Rustam Usmanovich has always been a leader who went ahead and led others.” “I’m certain,” he added, “that his qualities, as well as his milit...

Russia. Defense Minister says 300,000 reservists will be mobilized

Russian Defense Minister announces that 300,000 reservists will be mobilized to fight and that students will not be mobilized. After Putin's speech, Sergei Shoigu said, quoted by AFP, that at the moment the fight is "not so much against Ukraine, but against the West". According to Sky News, Shoigu said the people "will receive military training before being mobilized", adding that the mobilization will not include "people who have served as recruits or students". Shoigu also put forward a figure for Russian losses, speaking at 5,937 were killed, a number far below estimates given by Ukrainian and Western agencies. Russia recognizes around 6,000 dead soldiers and estimates 61,200 Ukrainian soldiers killed in the war. Speaking of the dead, he praised the work of doctors in ensuring th...

Russia buys weapons from North Korea, says US

Russia is buying weapons from North Korea, in a sign that Moscow is struggling to cope with the brunt of Western sanctions, US officials said. Declassified American military intelligence indicates that the Kremlin is purchasing large numbers of rockets and artillery shells from Pyongyang for use in Ukraine. An unnamed official confirmed the development to Reuters after the story first appeared in The New York Times. Russia "continues to suffer from severe supply shortages in Ukraine, in part due to export controls and sanctions," the US official said. "We hope Russia can try to purchase additional North Korean military equipment going forward," they added. Moscow also recently purchased Iranian-made drones to fill a shortage of military equipment, according to US intelligence. The Bi...
