Space Armageddon: Why the Pentagon fears Russia and China’s star wars weaponry

Russia and China are both in a race to catch the US with their space warfare capabilities. Early last month senior Pentagon officials huddled for two days of top secret discussions about Russia and China’s space weapons. Experts from the U.S. Space Command, the Missile Defense Agency, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the CIA, among others, delivered classified briefings on the grave threat posed by these incredibly destructive high-tech devices. A highly-classified tabletop wargame followed.  The danger of space warfare is increasing, as the two-theater war scenario that the U.S. has long feared is no longer hypothetical. Moscow and Beijing are strengthening their anti-U.S. partnership at a time when Russia is engaged in a brutal war on Ukraine and China is turni...

US approves F-16 equipment for Pakistan

The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Pakistan of F-16 Case for Sustainment and related equipment for an estimated cost of $450 million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today. The Government of Pakistan has requested to consolidate prior F-16 sustainment and support cases to support the Pakistan Air Force F-16 fleet by reducing duplicate case activities and adding additional continued support elements. Included are U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics services for follow-on support of Pakistan’s F-16 fleet to include: Participation in F-16 Aircraft Structural Integrity Program Electr...

US bans sales to China of key artificial intelligence ‘chips’

Nvidia and competitor AMD announced that the US is blocking them from selling chips for artificial intelligence products to China. Nvidia could lose $400 million this quarter. Chip maker Nvidia revealed on Wednesday that US officials told the company to stop exporting two key computing chips destined for artificial intelligence projects to China. Competitor Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is in the same situation. According to Reuters, this measure may hamper the ability of Chinese companies to perform advanced tasks, such as image recognition, but also cause some difficulties for Nvidia's business in China. Nvidia shares are down nearly 6.6% after the announcement. The company said the ban could interfere with the completion of development of the H100, a chip announced by Nvidia this ye...

US announces intercontinental missile test

Trident missiles, launched from the sea, are carried by US submarines, while nuclear bombs are carried by strategic bombers. The United States of America (USA) announced this Tuesday that it will test an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on Wednesday, an unusual revelation aimed at preventing a worsening of tensions with Russia in the midst of the conflict in Ukraine. "This test of the unarmed Minuteman III missile will take place tomorrow [Wednesday], the morning of September 7, from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California," said General Pat Ryder, a spokesman for the Pentagon (Department of Defense Department), in statements to the media. "This is a routine test that has been planned for some time, and that, like previous tests, will validate and verify the effectiveness and p...

Fincantieri Marinette Marine starts construction of frigate Constellation

THE PENTAGON – Fincantieri Marinette Marine will officially start building the first Constellation-class frigate at its yard in Marinette, Wis., today. The start of fabrication comes nearly two and a half years after the Navy issued Fincantieri the detail design and construction award for the first frigate in April 2020. After finishing the critical design review in May and the production readiness review in July, the Navy green-lit the shipbuilder to start production, Rear Adm. Casey Moton, the program executive officer for unmanned and small combatants, told reporters in a roundtable this week. Asked why it took the shipyard two and a half years to begin building the lead ship, Moton said both the service and Fincantieri wanted to complete the design as much as possible before begin...

US Special Operations Command has selected AT-802U Sky Warded strike aircraft for its Armed Overwatch program

L3Harris Technologies has announced that U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) has selected AT-802U Sky Warded strike aircraft for its Armed Overwatch program. The company said in a release that the award of the Indefinite Quantity, Indefinite Delivery contract includes a cost ceiling of $3 billion. The program includes delivery of up to 75 manned, fixed wing aircraft, with an initial program contract award of $170 million. The fleet of modern multi-mission aircraft will address SOCOM’s need for a deployable, sustainable single-engine fixed-wing, crewed and affordable aircraft system. It will provide close air support, precision strike, armed intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), strike coordination and forward air controller requirements for use in austere and permi...
